» DATABASE ON THE USE OF HEALTH SERVICES

GIMI is creating a consolidated database on the use of health services and performance indicators of microinsurance systems. This database will contain information on:

  1. Medical consumption data which will facilitate the premium calculation (cost of different health services, probability and frequency of use of these services, …);
  2. Monitoring indicators for health micro-insurance schemes.

This quantitative database, which will contain information of African and Asian countries (India and Pakistan to start with), will constitute a unique source of information in this field. This information can be used to:

  • Calculate the average cost of health services in various countries/ regions where information is available;
  • Calculate the cost of coverage for these services by an insurance scheme for various target populations based on the country, profession, age, geographic area (rural/urban), etc.;
  • Give an idea of the monitoring indicators of different schemes;
  • Produce consolidated indicators (for ex. total population covered in a certain country, average premium cost, etc.).

The database will be constructed through information that is gathered by different monitoring software used by the microinsurance schemes:
- Mas Gestion (developed by ILO/STEP) in French speaking Africa (performance indicators are available for a number of schemes followed by STEP in Senegal, Benin, DRC, Rwanda, Burkina);
- Syslift in Asia (distributed free of charge by Uplift.);
- An information and management system that has been developed by Microcare in Uganda;
-...:

You could also help us to improve the database by contributing data gathered from your scheme or region.
