What is Gimi for?
TopGIMI allows users to exchange, get training, information and expertise in the area of micro-insurance.
How does GIMI verify the reliability of information contributed by its users?
TopExperts in microinsurance and social protection on the GIMI team verify the publications to be added to the library, technical questions and answers, etc., before they are made available online. For some services (such as forums, collaborative spaces), the verification process takes place once the information is posted online by users, based on the principle that the experts in charge of these services monitor them closely and participate actively in their development.
How does GIMI work ?
TopGIMI is made possible thanks to a global network of experts, working every day to contribute to: 1) the improvement, enrichment, and development of the Internet application; 2) the creation of one or more communities of micro-insurance actors, who engage in exchanges, share content and best practices, and offer mutual support.
Informations and services available on GIMI are free of charge.
What is GIMI ?
TopGIMI is a space created for professionals in health micro-insurance. It is both an Internet application and a global network of experts. GIMI aims to provide a support system to actors working in the field and allows them to enhance their knowledge and skills in micro-insurance. More broadly, GIMI seeks to advance the development of operational knowledge in the field of micro-insurance. To this end GIMI: 1) provides access to resources (technical notes, databases, training kits, etc.); 2) fosters exchanges of information and the creation of new knowledge via wikis and discussion forums; 3) provides technical support for running projects in the field and offers training sessions.
Who are microinsurance professionals?
TopMicroinsurance professionals include the initiators, managers, supervisors, and developers of microinsurance systems. They also include experts, consultants, and trainers who support them. Finally, they include researchers conducting studies on microinsurance, access to health care, the extension of social protection, etc.
Who are GIMI users?
TopGIMI is primarily aimed at professionals working in micro-insurance and the extension of social security for excluded persons. These professionals work for micro-insurance systems, formal social security systems, national or local governments, support structures, social partners, professional organizations, NGOs, shared management centres, TPAs (in India), training centers, cooperative agencies, social security extension projects, etc.
Using GIMI
How is GIMI structured?
TopThe site map gives the general structure of GIMI. GIMI is divided into four areas (resources, services, exchanges, projects) and nine topics (overview, relevance, feasibility, marketing, administration, follow-up evaluation/rapid appraisal, articulations/contractual agreements, legislation, national policies and strategies). To access the contents of any one of these areas or topics, click on the corresponding link. You will be automatically redirected to its homepage.
How do I conduct a search within GIMI ?
TopYou can either use the plan or the "Search" button located on the top blue banner. You can also use one of the GIMI databases for conducting searches in specific areas: the library, bilingual glossary, expert database, e-GIMI discussion forum archives, and, coming soon, the micro-insurance systems database and the database on the use of health services.
How do I navigate within GIMI ?
TopGIMI provides you with several options for accessing the same information. You can find the main links in the navigation bar at the top of the page (Resources, Services, Exchanges, Projects) and in the topic menu on the right side of the page (Overview, Relevance, Feasibility, Marketing, Administration, Follow-up evaluation/Rapid Appraisal, Linkages/Contractual Agreements, Legislation, National Policies and Strategies). Within each topic, you can access the relevant information available in the Resources, Services, Exchanges, and Projects areas. For example, within the "Feasibility" topic, you can access resources in the Library on the subject of feasibility, or you can find experts who can help you to carry out a feasibility study. If you are lost, you can always consult the site map to locate where you are within GIMI.
How can I participate in GIMI life?
TopThe more you participate, the more GIMI becomes a lively space for exchange and interaction. You can: add news ("Latest GIMI News"), contribute new questions and answers to HELP, suggest new words and definitions for the glossary, suggest new resources for the library, comment on and evaluate existing resources, add content to the "Knowledge Map" and "Linkages" wikis, and discuss with other users in the e-GIMI forum. And, by participating in GIMI life, you earn GIMI-points. With GIMI-points, you can use the online help or participate in distance-learning workshops run by experts and training specialists.
How can I edit my personal information in GIMI?
TopJust enter your login and password into the "Already a member?" box and then click on "My profile" in the same box. A form will appear in which you can enter the desired changes (address, phone number, profession, specialization, systems familiar with, etc.). Your profile will be updated immediately.
How do I change my password?
TopEnter your username and password into the "Already a member?" box and then click on "My account" in the same box. A form will appear in which you can enter your new password. The new password will be effective immediately.
How do I register? Why is it important to register?
TopRegistering allows you to participate fully in GIMI life and to open a user account for earning GIMI-points. To register, simply click on "To register, click here" in the "Already registered?" box. Please note: in order to have access to your user account, you must make sure that your web browser authorizes cookies.
How can I send you my ideas and suggestions for improving GIMI?
TopYou can tell us what you think and share information with us by simply clicking on the "Idea box" on the GIMI homepage.
What do I do if I forgot my password?
TopForgetting your password can be very frustrating! For a password reminder, contact us at: gimi@ilo.org.
Can anyone add their CV to the expert database?
TopOnce you have entered your CV, the GIMI team decides whether or not to publish it. In general, if you have been working for more than one year in the field of microinsurance, the extension of social protection, social security, insurance or mutual health organisations and you've developed technical expertise in an operational area or a research area, your CV will be published. If your CV is not online after a few days, don't hesitate to contact us!
I need technical support for a project. How can the GIMI platform help me?
TopIf you have a general question, you can ask it via the GIMI Questions and Answers module. For more personalized questions, we can put you in contact with members of our GIMI pool of experts, who can provide you with various forms of technical assistance. This can be through informal technical assistance from a distance (via email, skype, etc.) to better understand your needs and give you appropriate advice (for example, refer you to a key document, put you in contact with other experts). Technical support can also be provided via your project space (see Question and Answer on the creation of a project space). This allows experts to have the complete project documentation at their disposal. They can follow the advancement of the project in real time and maintain direct, regular contact with members of your team via various online collaborative tools.
I'd like to create a project space? What do I need to do?
TopThe first step is to contact us at gimi@ilo.org so that we can identify together your needs. Next you can build your own project space online by integrating the various collaborative tools which you need.
My microinsurance project already has its own website. What is the purpose of creating a virtual space on GIMI for my project?
TopA virtual space contains a public section which improves the visibility of your project (you can even add a link to it from your website) and a private section which you can reserve for a restricted number of partners. This space is supported by various tools for exchanging and collaborating: for example, users can upload documents for others to modify or comment on, you can introduce planning and monitoring tools for your team's activities, wikis to produce content as a team, information lists and discussion forums on key subjects for your project, etc. You can also use this space to provide online training for your team. You can invite experts (from the GIMI expert pool), researchers and trainers to participate in certain project areas. They can then be integrated into your project team and offer you adapted technical support.

Why is it important to sign out when I finish using GIMI?
TopIf you are using a public or shared computer, don't forget to sign out when you are finished using GIMI. Otherwise, the next user on the computer can access GIMI services under your login name. The session does expire automatically after 30 minutes, however.
When I contribute a new document to the library will it be included automatically?
TopWhen you suggest a new resource, the GIMI team decides whether to publish it or not in the library. The main selection criteria is: the resource need to be useful for other actors involved in the extension of social protection and/or in microinsurance projects.
