Securing a Lorry by Knot

May 7, 2012 by

Nothing can ruin a good lorry insurance quote like having a history of things falling off the back of the vehicle. That’s why it’s best to use a complex and sturdy knot to secure items to a lorry. However, this isn’t a knot which is just for lorries; this is also a good knot for holding up tarp or holding down camping items.

Why is it so Good?

This knot, which is also known as a trucker’s hitch or lorry knot, is so good because it’s so strong. It will inevitably create a good lorry insurance quote as the lorry’s owner will have a history of nothing going wrong. It can hold on to loads which it really shouldn’t be able to hold on to. And to put the icing on the metaphorical cake, it’s simple and easy to untie.

How to Tie the Lorry Knot

1. Grab a hold of the loose end of the rope and cross it under that same loose end. Ideally, roughly 6 inches of rope should be left hanging at the end. Make a piece of the rope into a U shape and place it through the existing loop. The knot should look like its taking shape already.

2. Take hold of the loose end of the rope and guide it through either the hook or the anchor attached to the lorry. Then take the other end and guide it through the U-shaped part which was just threaded through the existing loop. The whole thing should be pulled tight to make sure that the whole thing is completely secure. Users should remember to leave about 3 or 4 inches of space between the hook and the trucker’s hitch itself.

3. Between the hook and the knot which has just been created, a double half-hitch should be made; in the direction of from knot to hook. The remaining loose rope should be crossed over and behind the original loop and then back over itself again. Finally, the previous action should be repeated and the whole thing should be pulled tightly to complete the knot.
